Abstract

The paper reviews a scientific knowledge from foreign and domestic literature with aim to justify the scope of a long-time investigation in Silvicultural use of permanently controversial green alder for mountainous sites. Information from green alder autoecology indicates its properties of an early successional species, capable of fixing air nitroxen (N2). The green alder concurrently proves little interesting ameliorative effects on forest soils without any severe disturbance particularly without scalped or heavy scarified topsoil (LFH and Ah horizons). The practical domestic use of green alder is derived from its characteristics of pioneer species. That concerns the use in amelioration of soils with scalped or heavy scarified forest floor and bared mineral soil, the use for reforestation of stony and bouldery soils on rock-block fields, and the use in soil reclamations.
