This paper deals with the performance of 28 Czech silver birch provenances (Betula pendula Roth) at 26 years of age, whose progenies have been tested in the provenance research plot No. 121 – Choceň (Eastern Bohemia region, 330 m a.s.l., average annual temperature 7.5–9.0 °C, average annual precipitations 500–700 mm, sandy soil). The site conditions were slightly warm, and the plot is located in a dry climate. Total height and diameter at breast height were measured and stem volume has been calculated, stem shape and type of crown branching have been visually assessed and recorded. In total 1,177 silver birch were measured for both quantitative and qualitative traits and the following progenies: 21 – Vyšší Brod, 9 – Židlochovice, 22 – Loučná, 4 – Opava, and 16 – Rychnov have given positive results. Worse growth was found in provenance 14 – Vimperk. As these research results indicated, the utilization of Šumava Mts. provenances in such natural site conditions is not suitable. However, from another point of view, some provenances, which gave positive results in the evaluation do not correspond with current legislative rules valid in the Czech Republic for transfer of tree species reproductive material under this provenance research plot site conditions.
