Silviculture of rare species as a part of spoil bank reclamation history has its own uniqueness in the Sokolov region. Anthropogenic substrates are very specific in terms of physical and chemical structure and represent unique systems which are very difficult to manage. All types of reclamations were realized there, i.e. forestry, agricultural, and hydric, all of them having very specific regimes. One of the important precondition was to establish research and experimental plots (about 480 ha at present). Later on, the reclamation arboretum was founded in order to create larger research basis for tree species evaluation as well as solve the problems with air pollution. The arboretum has now 224 taxa and is used for education by the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences in Prague. The species tree evaluation for forest reclamation is based on the combination of the most important ecological attributes, i.e. substrate conditions requirement, microclimatic tolerance and vitality. Species which are in compliance with given requirements are Alnus glutinosa L., A. incana (L.), Moench., Betula verrucosa Ehrh., Sorbus aucuparia L. and Salix daphnoides Vill.
