Description of project

The aim of the project is to find out an optimal strategy of forest thinning and regeneration of young spruce stands in 4. (beech site) and 5. (beech with fir site) forest vegetation zones showing spruce decline and dieback. The project is to be focused on environment conditions (soil, climate), forest stands’ health, effects of thinning on stands’ conditions and potential of both artificial and natural regeneration. The silviculture measures are to be proposed to maintain an economically sound share of spruce in forest composition. In addition, new approaches are to be applied to introduce the other prospective woody species when maintaining both productive and nonproductive forest functions in climate change conditions.
