Douglas-fir is important introduced tree species, which can be potentially used on sites endangered by the climate change. In total, 12 soil profiles in four different localities of the Czech Republic were sampled and analysed according to the ICP Forests methods. Results show overall strongly acidic soil reaction with pH(KCl) in the range between 4–5; low concentrations of base cations and low base saturation particularly at the soil depth from 10 cm to 40 cm; generally low content of phosphorus (> 20 mg.kg-1) and sufficient to good content of total nitrogen in the mineral soil. Described chemical properties of forest soils should be still convenient for Douglas-fir on well aerated loamy or loamy-silt sites, which are not influenced by water logging. The Douglas-fir growth can be suppressed on soils with very low base saturation (BS < 5%), which is the reality in Prostějov soil depth from 10 cm to 40 cm. In this case, however, the extension of sorption roots to the deeper, more convenient soil layers can be expected.
