Bacillus thuringiensis var. tenebrionis delta-endotoxin gene cry3A will be completely reconstructed for high expression in spruce. Modification of domain II loop 1 amino acids are planned, too, that should increase toxicity to Scolytidae species. Modified versions of cry3A genes will be expressed in E. coli and toxicity tested in vivo. Transgenic spruce embryogennic lines expressing modified cry3A genes will be developed and characterized.
