Abstract
The objective of the article is to evaluate economic profitability of selected management strategies in forest protected areas from the perspective of forest property owners. The regime of nature and landscape protection in a majority of cases means a change or a burden of forest management and economic loss for a forest owner. The methodical approach of the paper includes (i) secondary research of available information resources and (ii) a case study focused on the economical evaluation of different forest management strategies at two stands of the Vrapač National Nature Reserve (Czech Republic). Two management strategies were selected for the economic evaluation. Costs, revenues and cash flow were calculated, and the time factor was taken into account in the calculation of a net present value. The results comprise the calculation of stand economy according to individual strategies, and the calculation of a coefficient of economic potential. According to the results it is evident that the silvicultural regime is economically more efficient than the non-intervention one. At the same time, detriments incurred by the limitation of the forest management are not sufficiently compensated.
