The paper deals with a spontaneous development of the young deciduous stand of natural regeneration origin situated on rich beech-oak site. The stand was developed after the disintegration of allochthonous coniferous stand. The main climax tree species prevailing in the surrounding old stands is sessile oak. However, this species shares less than 1% in the young stand. The stand is dominated by linden and hornbeam (about 73% of all living trees). Only one quarter of the total number of oak individuals (55 individuals per 1 ha) was found in the main stratum of this young stand having the average growth area approximately 5 m2. The majority of dying or dead oaks had the average growth area approximately 2 m2. To keep the oaks in the young mixed deciduous stand, the oak individuals must be released by crown thinning – trees must have at least 7 m2 growing area. In unmanaged stands, oak is suppressed and dies due to the competition of the other tree species like beech, hornbeam, linden, and ash.
