Increasingly perceptible climatic extremes combined with the specific soil and hydrogeological conditions of the Morava River floodplain (Czech Republic) affect the groundwater dynamics in the right-bank alluvium. Following the last hydraulic engineering measures carried out in the Morava River floodplain in the second half of the 20th century, the groundwater regime has been subjected to frequent changes, which have had a negative impact on floodplain forests. The aim of the presented study is to verify the possibilities of GIS methods application in evaluating the current annual groundwater dynamics in the model area of the Morava River floodplain in the year 2013. Results obtained confirmed the possibility of applying the given method in monitoring the ongoing trend of groundwater level decrease in the study area in relation to the specific climatic and hydrological conditions in the river basin. The research still continues. Using a larger data set from 2014, the groundwater level evaluation is further refined.
