After extensive wind or snow calamity, there is often left a large number of both unprocessed trees and processed timber in the forest during the growing period. Traditional methods based on the timely removal of attractive wood, or rather on individual treatment of infested wood, fail in this situation. Therefore, the unconventional methods, which had been previously partially used but were not sufficiently evaluated, were tried. These include the treatment of a landing by water spraying or direct treatment of a landing by insecticides. The use of insecticidal net (Storanet®) is completely new. The efficacy of chipping of a landing to Pityogenes chalcographus (L.) survival was studied. Furthermore the attractiveness of wood processed by harvesters for Ips typographus (L.) (with regard to varying degrees of damage of the bark) and logging residues was studied. The results indicate minimal risk of expanding of Ips typographus (L.) from logging residues. It emerged that all studied methods were highly effective, although they are costly and often require special technical conditions or are laborious. In extraordinary situations, however, it is possible to use them and thus prevent gradation of Ips typographus (L.). There are certain reservations about treating the landing – efficacy will depend on the size of the landing, more precisely on the ratio of an exposed surface of the logs and a hidden surface inside the landing.
