The three-year monitoring of the basal area increment showed an annual dynamic response of a carbon sequestration into the tree biomass. The destructive analysis of the nine sample trees created the data source for selection of the best model to estimate all fractions of the tree biomass. Since the beginning of investigation (i.e. in 2010), the total biomass of trees in the mature stand (age of 106 years) reached 462.7 t.ha-1, where 16.0 t.ha-1 (i.e. 3.4 %) accounts for needles, 42.9 t.ha-1 (i.e. 9.3 %) for branches, 1.8 t.ha-1 (i.e. 0.4 %) for dead branches, 323.9 t.ha-1 (i.e. 70.0 %) for stems, and 78.1 t.ha-1 (i.e. 16.9 %) for roots. Considering the different carbon content in the particular biomass fractions, the total carbon stock in trees amounted to 236.2 t.ha-1 (from that ca 83 % in above- and 17 % in below-ground), when 150.5 t.ha-1 of carbon is accumulated in the soil up to the depth of 1 m. The total amount of carbon annually sequestered into tree biomass reached 3.23 t.ha-1 during a “normal-like” year, whereas one year after the selection cut from below (even considerably dry year) trees sequestrated about 4.36 t.ha-1 of carbon. Therefore, investigated spruce forest stand performed still as a positive carbon storage despite of its age being close to the harvest time.
