The study analyses (i) the relationship between the density of sessile oak forest stand and relative irradiation in stand interior quantified by site factors (direct – DSF, indirect – ISF and total TSF), and (ii) the relationship between the height growth of sessile oak natural regeneration and quantitative characteristics of relative light under the stand canopy. The correlations between the parameters of stand density (basal area, stem number, canopy cover) and relative irradiation were weak. The highest correlation was found between ISF and stem number (R2 = 0.319*). Two vegetation periods after the reduction of stand canopy that reaches 20–80% of canopy cover or 20–58% of relative irradiation in 20 sample plots, the change of light conditions was reflected in differently intensive height growth of natural regeneration. The positive influence of more intensive irradiation was already observed in the first vegetation period after the canopy reduction. The positive impact on height growth of natural regeneration was even more significant in the second vegetation period. The value of canopy cover had no influence on the density of natural regeneration (saplings with mean height up to 80 cm).
