Abstrakt
The article summarizes results of the public opinion survey on forestry in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area, Czech Republic. The investigation took place in 2012 and it was focused on users of the recreation forest service in the area of Žďár nad Sázavou town, central part of the Czech Republic. The respondents filled in the questionnaire containing eight questions concerning the visit rate, preference of forest type, opinions on the forest stand state and management, threats and causes of damage in the forest, and the importance of selected forest functions within the studied area. The survey showed an above-average visit rate in the area; it was also confirmed that the damage caused by harvesting and improper management is perceived as an important threat to the forest. The respondents visit forest especially for beautiful scenery and healthy environment it provides. Most respondents prefer coniferous forests. They consider timber production the most important forest function, followed by nature conservation. Our findings are compared with the results of recently published surveys.
