Abstrakt

This article addresses a significantly above-average accident rate in forestry of the Czech Republic, particularly in logging and felling operations. Its aim is to analyze the factors contributing to this high rate, and, at the same time, to compare it with the national industrial average. This study, however, is not just an analysis of the accident rates but also an investigation why the rate is that high in the forest industry and what can be done to reduce it. In the first part, the quantitative approach was used to compare the data related to injuries in forestry and those from industry as a whole in the country. In the second part, the qualitative approach was used, interviewing inspectors responsible for health and safety in the forest industry. Considering the present situation, this contribution is a unique study in the Czech Republic that could lay the foundation of further investigation here, as it has been done lately in some foreign countries.
