Abstrakt
Floodplain forests of the European temperate zone are considered important biodiversity refugees in cultural lowland landscapes. Presented paper is a case study focused on assessment of effectiveness of protected areas for maintaining of Central European floodplain forests biodiversity as well as its monetary value. The work is located in the Czech Republic, where detailed data from field mapping of forest habitats are available. Effectiveness of protected areas is measured via special indices, which cover ratio of protected and non-protected areas (based on comparison between Czech national system of protected areas and Natura 2000 European network). Monetary valuation of floodplain forest habitats is based on original expert method, which can be involved to the concept of payments for ecosystem services. Presented results indicated higher effectiveness of Natura 2000 network than the national system of protected areas. Monetary value of natural habitats of floodplain forests supports the awareness of the protected areas importance for maintaining of floodplain forest biodiversity in the frame of conservation targets of Natura 2000.
