The article presents information on potential of forest production, based on ecosite classes, intensity of management and target management. It is based on the work of Karel Plíva (PLÍVA 2000) who elaborated methodical procedures to use ecosite classes for differentiation of forest management in accordance with the conception of sustainable management and its effectiveness. As it is mentioned in the article, the choice of the management intensity (i.e. of management measures) essentially influences the effectiveness of forest stand management. Intensity of management is also strongly linked to direct costs of silvicultural operations, amounting to 40 – 250 thousands CZK/ha according to recent calculations. As a result, management with lower inputs (lower intensity) would be recommended for stands with lower production potential, while higher intensity management would be appropriate for stands with higher production potential.
