The paper is focused on the issues of non-forest lands, particularly „white sites“, taking into consideration the investigation of the present status and suggestion of tree species structure adjustment. The term “white sites” indicates abandoned farmland covered with forest vegetation, where no elaborated programme of forest care is applied. This is a common situation in Slovakia following the lands overview within the land registry, focusing on agriculture land and forest land (in accordance with Act No. 220/2004 and Act No. 360/2007). Our case study was conducted within the area of the Technical University Forest Enterprise, Zvolen, on approximately 150 white sites totalling more than 250 hectares. The study aims at their mapping, description and dendrology inventory. Primary characteristics were surveyed in these areas to describe a present status quo. Tree species structure was evaluated in a complex way, from the optimum and suitability point of view. Moreover, the paper shows graphical demonstration of the sites location and the principal information dissemination through web interface by GIS outputs.
