Abstrakt
In connection with deterioration of silver fir health status and the decrease of this species composition, considerable possibilities for its substitution by some exotic Abies species, in the past have been considered. This provenance research project aimed at testing the performance of exotic Abies species started as part of Forestry and Game Management Research Institute Jíloviště-Strnady research activities. Presented here are results of height and DBH growth evaluation at the age of 36–41 years and these are summarised, in this paper. Above average growth was recorded in the case of Abies grandis provenances. As for other findings, there were recorded both positive and negative data for A. concolor and A. procera provenances. Promising results have been indicated in case of some A. borisii-regis provenances. Considered as inappropriate for the Czech Republic forest management, were provenances of A. balsamea, A. pinsapo, A. cilicica, A. magnifica, A. bornmulleriana and A. lasiocarpa and these appear to be unsuitable.
