Assemblage of soil oribatid mites (Oribatida) was monitored in birch stands unaffected by chemical amelioration and on sites after application of dolomitic limestone (6 t.ha-1) on the territory of the eastern Krušné hory (Ore Mts.), Czech Republic (2003–2012). Presence of 114 soil Oribatida species was confirmed; the control (untreated) and the limed birch stands did not differ in the total number of species and the faunistic similarity reached 60.8–75%. Throughout the nine years, the number of species as well as the faunistic similarity of the Oribatida assemblages decreased (46–62%) both in the control and in the limed stands. In the most of the dominant and subdominant Oribatida species, a marked reduction of their abundance was observed (2003–2007 × 2008–2012), except for the species Atropacarus striculus (C.L.Koch, 1836) (increase) and Platynothrus peltifer (C.L.Koch, 1839) (partial increase). No statistically significant difference in the occurrence of dominant and subdominant mites in untreated versus limed stands was found. The overall decline of the soil oribatid mite community was not induced by liming, but by some other unspecified site factor.
