The main purpose of the analysis is to monitor the composition of employment in forestry in relation to the main economic activities in the forest. The paper documents the impact of fundamental social changes after 1989, particularly the process of privatization of forests, on the employment structure. The analysis also defines the basic driving force that leads to the effective use of human labour in the process of forestry conversion and its management. As content analysis was the main method used, the results have been continuously consulted with the Czech Statistical Office. The development of employment in forestry can be divided into two periods: (i) 1948–1989, and (ii) 1990–present. Employment in both periods was affected mainly by acreage of forests, fields and technologies of logging and reforestation. In the second period it was mainly affected by privatization, greater pressure on the rationalization of work and particularly by outsourcing and workforce reduction.
